What is calcium chloride?
Calcium chloride (CaCl₂) is an inorganic chemical compound - a white solid, highly hygroscopic, highly soluble in water. Produced as granules, flakes or aqueous solution.
Key properties
- Technical purity: ≥94% CaCl₂
- Freezing point of the solution: up to –52°C (at 30% concentration)
- Exothermic reaction: releases heat upon contact with water - accelerates the melting of ice
Industrial applications
- De-icing: effective down to -52°C - better than NaCl
- Construction: concrete setting accelerator by 30-50%
- Food industry: acidity regulator (E509)
- Chemical industry: desiccant and electrolyte
