Road salt quality standards in Poland
Road salt used in Poland must meet the requirements of the PN-EN 16811-1 standard. The standard specifies the minimum parameters: NaCl content, granulation, permissible contaminants and requirements for packaging and labeling.
Key technical parameters
- NaCl content: minimum 94% (class S1) or 97% (class S2)
- Granulation: 0–6 mm for bulk road salt
- Humidity: maximum 3%
- Anti-caking agent (potassium ferrocyanide): up to 100 mg/kg
Liability of the road manager
The road manager is responsible for the condition of the road surface 24 hours a day. Failure to sprinkle or use salt that does not meet the standards may result in civil liability for road accidents.
