Salt as a raw material for chlorine-alkali electrolysis

Electrolytic decomposition of NaCl brine (chloralkali electrolysis) is one of the most important processes in the chemical industry. The products arechlorine (Cl₂), sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and hydrogen (H₂). The process requires very pure salt (NaCl ≥99.9%).

Quality requirements for the chemical industry

• NaCl: ≥99.5–99.9%
• Sulphates (SO₄²⁻): ≤200 mg/kg
• Calcium and magnesium: ≤10 mg/kg total
• Heavy metals: below industry standard limits

Process water treatment

In chemical plants, tablet salt is used primarily to regenerate water softeners feeding steam boilers and cooling towers. Requirements for the food industry: PN-EN 973.
