Base pattern
Q [t] = P [m²] × d [g/m²] × n / 1,000,000
where: P – road surface, d – dose per action, n – number of actions in the season.
Typical doses of road salt
- Preventive (against rainfall): 10–15 g/m²
- For black ice: 15–25 g/m²
- On icy surfaces: 30–40 g/m²
Example for a commune with 80 km of roads
80 km × 5 m wide = 400,000 m². Dose 20 g/m², 25 actions:
400,000 × 20 × 25 / 1,000,000 = 200 tons of salt
It is recommended to order 20-30% more as a safety buffer.
When to order?
The optimal order time is May–August. Prices are then the lowest. In autumn, the market is tight, prices increase by 15-30%.
